OneNote for the iPad...it does work

I will be honest, I am an idiot! ;-) A while ago I gave the new OneNote app for the iPad a bad review. Today during a meeting my colleague, Neal Pels, took out his iPad and loaded the OneNote app. I had no idea why  because I assumed it did not work anyway....well I was wrong.

The app can work in combination with SkyDrive. I did not realize you can save notebooks to SkyDrive.  So how does this work? Go to OneNote and click at File:

You can choose to create a new notebook in the Web. You can see Web Location at the bottom of the screen? Here it's possible to login with your Microsoft Live ID. The notebook can be stored in the Personal or Shared Folders. That is all up to you. OneNote even provides you with the option to create a new folder to store the notebooks. The following message will appear:

Just select the option that works for you.

No worries if you already created notebooks and stored these locally. Just rename the current one and create a new one. You can now drag and drop your section groups to the new notebook. Believe me, that goes fast!

Now load the iPad OneNote app and go to the settings menu. You have to login with your Microsoft Live ID to connect to your SkyDrive. Also don't forget to click at Sync now to load newly created notebooks.

I have to admit I did not tested it well enough the first time and was to fast to jump to the conclusion the app was not good. There are still a couple of aspects you have to realize:

• A Microsoft Live ID is mandatory.
• There is a 500 pages limit for the free edition. The upgrade costs around 11 euro's.
• Limited set of text editing options.
