Documents missing after deleting column

I stumbled upon a weird situation in SharePoint. I had a column called category in a document library. This column was attached to all the documents. I decided to delete the column but what happened...all the documents were gone!

Actually they were not gone but just not visible anymore in the view of the library. I created a new view and documents were back. I find this pretty strange, curious if this is a bug.

So if you encounter the same problem, just create a new view :)
